Shoutout to Devin Woodring, Carl Albert High School Quarterback, for his incredible leadership and heart! Devin started collection drives for Cleats for Kids (C4K) when he was little, and today, he was recognized at C4K’s Signing Day event! C4K empowers kids to lead healthier lifestyles, learn life lessons through sports, and gain self-confidence by providing sports shoes and safe equipment to those in need. By getting more kids involved in sports, this one-of-a-kind mission is changing lives in our community. Devin’s commitment to giving back shows how powerful it is when kids help other kids. The U.S. Department of Education Announces 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools: Congratulations to the Schwartz Elementary Stallions! It’s the school’s third National Blue Ribbon School Distinction. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 356 schools – including Schwartz Elementary in Mid-Del – as the 2024 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools. Schwartz is one of four schools in Oklahoma to be named a Blue Ribbon School in 2024. This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups. “The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” said Cardona. “The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities. As we celebrate their achievements, let us look to these schools for inspiration as we champion education as the foundation of a brighter future for every child.” The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools reflect the full diversity of American education and serve students from all backgrounds. While awardees represent a wide array of schools, they share common traits. National Blue Ribbon Schools are led by leaders who articulate a clear vision of instructional excellence and uphold high standards. Collaboration among families, communities, and educators is a key component of their success. Each nominated school submits a comprehensive application detailing its school culture, curriculum, assessments, instructional practices, professional development, leadership, family, and community involvement. Up to 420 schools may be nominated each year. The Department invites nominations for the National Blue Ribbon Schools award from the top education officials in all states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories, the Department of Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of Indian Education. This is the third time Schwartz has been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School, having earned the honor in 2008 and 2015 as well. Superintendent Dr. Rick Cobb praised Principal Rondall Jones and the Schwartz staff for their commitment and consistency. “To gain this recognition once takes hard work. To earn it three times in 16 years means high expectations have been in place for a long time.” Jones was also the principal in 2015 when the school was recognized. He added, “I am very excited for our school and district. We continuously strive for improvement. Congratulations to Tyler Turbyfill, the Mary Banister Foundation Teacher of the Game from last week! The Mary Banister Foundation was founded by Dr. Jason Banister in 2021 in an effort to serve his community, while honoring the memory of his mother. Earlier this week, we had students from all three of our high schools attend the Easter Oklahoma County Area Wide College Fair hosted at Rose State College. Students were able to talk with over 50 colleges and universities about their future plans. We’re incredibly grateful for the Del City Police Department’s proactive commitment to keeping our schools safe! Today, Major Brad Cowden led critical training sessions with staff from Del City High School, Epperly Heights, Del City Elementary, Townsend Elementary, and Parkview Elementary, in partnership with the 'I Love You Guys Foundation.' Last year, elementary principals, assistant principals, and instructional coaches completed their LETRS training. LETRS is rooted in the Science of Reading, and teaches the how of literacy instruction.
